It is helpful (if not essential); to remember that the relationship a person has with their piano is different than any other. Historically, a piano was the single largest purchase a family made, other than their house. A piano is not only a valuable piece of furniture, but one that engenders memories, emotions, and attachments through the music and events associated with it. Often we move pianos that have less monetary value than the cost of the move, simply because the customers care about it. In many cases, a piano provides a multi-generational tie or continuity in its' family history. Also, each piano is unique due to the nature of the craftsmanship involved in its' construction.
Piano movers are either heroes or chumps. Customers are typically very nervous about moving a piano. It is valuable; it is special; it is beautiful; it is heavy; it is complex! Most often customers are most nervous about moving their piano because they have either tried themselves and couldn't, or they had a disaster when they did move it. If the customer had it moved by movers, it was a disaster...pianos falling off the truck, lost parts such as legs, lids, benches, damaged floors, walls, etc.
We include in our price up to $100,000 cargo insurance and $1,000,000 liability insurance for every move. There are no hidden costs. We are piano technicians who move pianos, not furniture movers who move pianos. We are members of the Piano Technicians Guild, a professional organization, which sets standards and provides training and references throughout the piano industry. We have been in business for over 7 years; have moved over 7,000 pianos, and have never had an insurance claim for damage to a piano. Not that there have been no nicks or scratches, but we either have gotten them repaired or repaired them ourselves.
If ever there is a problem, customers will find out about it from Green Mountain Piano. We will begin working to resolve the issue to their satisfaction. Our Bill of Lading/Condition Report is useful in making sure that the piano arrives in the same state that it was picked up in. Normally, we operate on direct line scheduling. This means, (unless the customer is notified), the truck and men that pick up the piano will be the same that deliver it.
